Walk for 10 minutes to the other side of the River Oise to the town centre of Compiègne, which saw many a lavish reception during the era of the Second Empire in the mid-19th century. Nearby, you can daydream, stroll, walk, run, gallop or pedal (with cycle lanes a plenty) in one of the most beautiful forests in France, and site of the Armistice ending the First World War. 

Just 15 km from our 4-star hotel, the Château de Pierrefonds will transport you into the world of a swashbuckler. This feudal castle was built at the end of the 11th century by Duke Louis of Orleans, and was completely restored and enhanced by the 19th century architect Viollet-le-Duc. 

Moving further afield to around 30 km away, you’ll find Noyon, one of France’s “Villes d’Art et d’Histoire” (Towns of Art and History), whose cathedral was the grand site of Charlemagne’s coronation.
